Introduction to The WHWs
The White Hill Writers are a motley crew who came together at The White Hill Centre in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. When the COVID pandemic put a stop to that, our love of writing continued to bind us together and we challenged ourselves to write from home, checking in weekly on Zoom to share ideas.
It not only provided a focus and escape from our lockdown situations but also engaged our minds effectively.
Gradually, as we accumulated a substantial body of work, we felt encouraged to share it. We have pulled together a varied collection of prose and poetry embracing thoughtful reflections and celebrating the resilience of the imagination. The span of topics is wide, hence the title:
"Butter Beans, Butterflies and Bus Rides".
Included in the collection are pieces expressing our appreciation of the Chilterns which have provided an idyllic landscape, not only inspiring, but also sustaining us during a year of disruption and limitations.
This publication has taken us on an unexpected journey of perseverance, drawing upon hidden talents within the group while researching and gaining new skills along the way. So, we are proud to have arrived in this space.
Hopefully the book will bring pleasure. If any of the prose or poetry resonates or lifts your spirits that is an achievement for us; if you are tempted to explore the Chilterns that is a bonus. If it inspires you to write, well, that is simply wonderful.
We hope that you enjoy reading our contributions.
