The Chesham
"Memory Tree"
Overlooking Chesham is Dungrove Farm and in the middle of one of its fields, Marvel Hill, is the locally-named ‘Memory Tree’, a huge sentry-like oak that stands alone and proud over the town, conveying an air of authority and a wisp of mysticism to all who view it. It is about 300 years old and is renowned as a site of spiritual symbolism, rituals , ceremonies and scattering of ashes in memory of friends and relatives.

Visitors sit under its boughs for calm reflection and contemplation, with many attaching trinkets to its lower branches where the tree holds these dear memories aloft in the breeze.

This magnificent tree is emblematic of The White Hill Writers ambition to write stories about people and events, in our lifetimes and beyond.
